Or if you really just want that sound, you could always rewire reason into whatever daw you are using now, just for the thor synth (if you can deal with that rewire workflow. You will get more fine tuned control over every component, and be able to make comparable sounding stuff, it will just take a little more work up front, but the plus side of that is that the results will be more original and wont "sound like reason", which was a real problem when reason was still popular, you could literally hear the daw in every tune made with it (because of the fact that reason didnt support vst instruments and effects) The downside of having that all in one plugin is that you get less fine tuned control over every aspect of it, I would suggest piecing your own thor together by combining some synths and some effects units (basically all the different components of thor) into something like an ableton rack, or an FL patcher, or a renoise instrument, or whatever equivalent your daw of choice has for modular synth building. Propellerhead Reason looks, behaves and sounds unlike any other music production software. Reason had to have a redeemer for the fact that they didnt support VSTs so you had to do everything completely inside of reason (or rewire to another host, and lets all be honest, rewiring is a pain in the ass) Reason is one of the most popular music software programs, developed by Swedish software developers. Which means really really good sounding engine.Thor was basically a kitchen sink synth, I doubt you will find another that does all of that in one single plugin. Propellerhead Record 1.5 and Reason 5 is expected for release late Summer 2010. Soundwise, Absynth doesn't try to emulate anything, but if i could pick up what it's closest sound in hardware is i would pick Roland V Synth. It's a steep learning curve, BUT it will get you there faster.

Technically, you could learn everything by following the manual and some help of google. When you first launch Reason 9.5 it will scan your VST folders. However there are a few extra things to know about. Reason 11. VST plug-ins in Reason have the same priviliges as any other rack module or Rack Extension, so they can be used in exactly the same way.

Good side, there is a great manual and great graphical interface. After installing, open reason 11 and go on the registration tab. I should also warn that random parameter tweaking in Absynth will get you nowhere. The programs boot up but I've noticed lagging (10 min or more) while loading samples into the various Reason 5 modules ie NNXT, DR OctoRex, Kong, etc. Before diving in to it, there is always the option of 'Rewire'.
The whole rack interface contains a VST Host, and you can seamless drag and drop VST intstruments and plugins in to the reason rack as of the latest version. Essentially you need to know all synthesis types, since they are all (more less) covered in this synth. How do I allow Windows 7 to recognize both Propellerheads Reason/Recycle as compatible software applications I'm currently getting the incompatibility message with the yellow exclamation icon. While this is quite fresh, vst will be supported since Propellerhead Reason 9.5. or more for specific things?I do programming for living so maybe i'm a bit biased when i said "some knowledge". Can you define some? For example, if I fully understand a free synth like Tyrell, would I be able to get slowly started with Absynth orĭoes it still require a lot of more knowledge to create even a good sounding basic patch? And is it in general also a good main synth to have for basslines, leads, pads etc.
